Hang Child Cancer on the Hook
June 18th 2007 by Megan Bayliss in Child Abuse
With the usual furor of working against sexual predators, I again today raise my steel utensil against those filthy germs that get to our kids.
Bring out the crochet hooks, brothers and sisters, and square up to those perpetrators that hurt our kids. It’s not only people that violate our children’s innocence but also the dreadful childhood diseases that take our children from us and leave our hearts forever cold and bleeding. How I yearn to cuddle those kids and let them know that not everything and everyone in life is bad.
Shelly Kneupper Tucker from This Eclectic Life is Searching for People with Big Hearts. Do you fit the bill? Inspired to make a non quilted quilt (because she can’t quilt - either can I!) that represents community care, love and support for children with cancer, Shelly is calling for crocheted squares to make sufficient quilts for each sick child that attends a cancer camp.
Now really, if you have any heart, can you ignore this practical and affordable way to help a sick child? I sure can’t so I’ll be sending a little square of Australia across the Pacific and land in between us to Shelly in Texas.
Details of size, gauge and address are on Shelly’s post (linked to above). Come on, hang child cancer on the hook and crochet some community care into squares for Shelly to present to children violated with cancer.

I love the help you are giving! Can’t wait for a square from Australia to go on the very first quilt. Wonder how long it will take to get here? That would be so cool if it gets here in time (July 19th is when the first quilt gets made). Thank you so much for posting about it.

No worries. I’ll have some squares to you in time. It is a worthwhile project and I am glad that I am able enought to contribute.
Thank you for starting it.
