Photos of women in Cairns sharing afternoon tea and research at the Imaginif talk doctor’s surgery
March 9th 2008 by Megan Bayliss in Child AbuseThe miracle of the loaves and the fishes was in the getting together and sharing. Opposing sides and unsophisticated problem solvers sat together and ate a meal. A miracle indeed, but then, few of them were women.
Not quite biblical or miraculous; 17 very different women came to the Talk Doctors at Imaginif and we shared afternoon tea to celebrate International Women’s Day. The miracle was in the demographic mix of women who value being women rather than clones of male sanctioned femininity, our survival, our non judgemental air of sharing with each other and that despite our backgrounds, our education or our status, we came together as women to do things that many women like to do - share over food and talk. It was a GREAT afternoon and thank you to those women who joined in celebrating ourselves as women and participated in my grass roots and impromptu research about how you chose the clothes you wore that day and the most important social issues to you (responses minus analysis are below the photos).

This was our afternoon in pictures. We share so that you can see what women look like in Cairns, Far North Queensland - what we wear in our tropical climate, our hair styles, our colours, our office space, the way we celebrate being women:
